Way to go Alex! You just picked up another fan! Such an heartwarming story that I'm sure must have been inspired by a real life Alex. In a world where kids, teens, and even adults compete for clicks, Alex demonstrates what really matters in the world, the hearts and minds of humanity. Also wanted to say that the illustrations and visual appeal of this book and other children's books by the author is really working. On all levels, this books rocks!

"Straight Lines"

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful Story for "Children" of All Ages

Reviewed in the United States on January 6, 2024

When I first read Straight Lines, my first thought was that it was targeted for the younger reader, but ironically the message seemed to be more for the older reader. But then I reread the story, which I liked a lot, and thought about it a bit differently. Let me explain. Grandpa is stuck in his ways. He mows his lawn a certain way and is afraid to go on a class reunion and leave that responsibility with his grandson, afraid that his grandson just might mow the lawn his own way, a different way. He’d rather give up the trip than be a little more broadminded. His wife convinces him to take a chance and well, you can guess that he’s not unhappy with the outcome.

My second reading helped me realize that the power of this story is good for the younger reader, too. The grandson sticks to his guns. Sometimes when you know you’re right, it makes sense to follow your heart. You can teach the old folks a lesson.

I recommend this book to children of all ages—the one who is reading it and the one being read to. Or, maybe, they will read the book together. A heartwarming story that sends a powerful message. 5 stars.
